Sustainability
At Weseta, we use resources mindfully. Our certifications are proof of sustainability in action. We prioritize completely natural materials and a transparent value chain. In addition, we strive to keep production, as well as the upstream and downstream processes, as eco-friendly and responsible as possible.
Swiss reliability, sustainable production

Trusted partner companies
Sustainability is a top priority at Weseta. All products manufactured in Switzerland are made of 100% cotton, an entirely natural product. Weseta acts ecologically and responsibly at all stages of production. This begins with the careful selection of reliable partner companies in cotton cultivation.
Sustainable production
All Weseta terry products are woven in Switzerland. This guarantees short transportation routes, fair working conditions and consistently high quality. The production machines at the company headquarters in Engi are powered by energy from Co2-free electricity production in our own hydroelectric power plant. We place enormous value on sustainable, resource-saving processes at every stage of production both in Engi and at the weaving mill in Niederurnen.
It goes without saying that our products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, meaning they are harmless to health and environmentally friendly. Weseta terry toweling is ultra-durable and incomparably soft.

STANDARD 100, MADE IN GREEN and STeP by OEKO-TEX®
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It represents consumer confidence and high product safety. It is the basis for the OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN certification.
Weseta weaves and sews the products in its own factory in Glarus. As a premium manufacturer, we maintain a strong sense of responsibility. All products are certified according to OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN, one of the strictest labels in the textile industry. Our organic product softweight bio also meets the requirements of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
The OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN label serves as proof that a textile product has been tested for harmful substances. It also guarantees that the textile product was manufactured using sustainable processes and under environmentally friendly, socially acceptable working conditions.
It enables our customers to precisely trace every product labeled with a unique product ID back along the supply chain to the raw materials.
This means Weseta meets the requirements for environmentally friendly and responsible production companies. Even though the OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN certification is a very difficult label to attain for comprehensive sustainability in production, it does not change anything fundamental in the company—because Weseta has been living by these values for generations.
The production chain in the textile industry can sometimes lack transparency when it comes to sustainability. This is why OEKO-TEX has introduced the STeP certification as a global standard which enables a measurable comparison of the sustainability of the production and processing companies involved.
Weseta Textil AG is classified at the highest level, Level 3, under this standard. This means that our production is characterized by exemplary implementation of sustainability measures in accordance with six different best practices, which makes us one of the leading companies in the industry.
GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD (GOTS)
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is based on a clearly defined, transparent and comprehensive set of criteria, giving it an advantage over vague terms such as “sustainable fashion”, “ethical clothing” and “fair production”.
GOTS is the world’s leading textile processing standard for organic fibers. Certification from this independent non-profit organization requires textile production to meet certain ecological and social criteria. The entire textile supply chain is subject to an independent and transparent certification process.
Sustainable Textiles Switzerland
Weseta has committed to the sustainability goals of Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 (STS2030). This is a multi-stakeholder program with the mission of making a significant contribution to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Swiss textile and clothing sector along the entire value chain.
By committing itself to this, Weseta confirms that it is taking measures to ensure the achievement of the following goals:
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Promotion of fair wages and humane working conditions for all.
- Promotion of innovative business models toward a circular economy.
- Transparency to ensure that sustainable purchasing decisions can be made.
Tangibly sustainable. Tangibly together. Tangibly Weseta.
Corporate responsibility means thinking about the future. As such, it represents an obligation to practice careful sustainability and social commitment. The STS2030 platform provides the basis for joint innovation and decisive action. For our customers. For our partners. For our employees. For our planet.
